Revit Models on the iPhone
So far we’ve seen Brushes, and SketchBook Mobile. They’re nearly famous graphics apps for the iPhone.
It was just a matter of time. ICEvision allows you to explore your Revit or AutoCAD 3D models on the iPhone.
You might also check out REVITkeys. REVITkeys is a list of 260 keyboard combinations for AutoDesk Revit Architecture 2010. Arranged in 14 categories for easy access this tool makes it easy to find the keyboard combination you are looking for or learn new ones. According to Utilizing REVITkeys for Revit Architecture will speed up your work and help you learn new skills.
Multi-touch CAD? Check out iTracer. It’s still early in development, but the idea is fantastic.
You might also keep an eye on products like cadTouch. This smart little app will draw lines as you walk from point A to point B to point C, and can export the results as a .dxf or .jpg. In theory, you could walk the perimeter of a building creating an as-built that you could e-mail back to the office from your iPhone. It has a ways to go in development, but it’s smart.
I recently read an article by Anthony Frausto-Robledo, LEED® AP, published in March of last year. I think he was spot on then, and the iPhone has continued to shine: The bottom line is that Apple’s iPhone is a hardware super power when it comes to performance in the mobile space, tapping the best technologies with the most forward looking positions in the market. ARM, OpenGL ES, PowerVR are key positives here. Combine that with Apple’s Core Animation and OpenAL audio (a 3D audio technology) and QuickTime-based media architecture — and of course the use of the accelerometer — and you have a great platform for mobile 3D applications in professional markets like CAD, mCAD, BIM and pro 3D.
