AutoCAD MAP Definition
AutoCAD® Map 3D software enables engineers, planners, mapping technicians, surveyors, and GIS professionals to directly access, edit, visualize, and analyze a broad variety of CAD and spatial data in a familiar AutoCAD® software environment. AutoCAD Map 3D mapping software is one of the leading engineering platforms for creating and managing spatial data and bridges the gap between CAD and GIS, enabling you to integrate geospatial functions in a single environment for more efficient workflows.

AutoCAD MAP is included with, and installs with, AutoCAD® Civil 3D®.

AutoCAD MAP Tutorials

  • MAP103 GIS Data: Terminology, Process & Workflow
Covers several releases of AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, and AutoCAD MAP 3D. 52 Pages.
  • MAP102 Import and Export Arcview Shapefiles
Civil 3D and MAP 3D can import and export ArcView Shapefiles and ArcInfo Exports (.e00). They can also connect directly to the files using FDO. These video tutorials have several examples of utilizing Civil 3D and MAP 3D for GIS functionality.
  • MAP101 Import TNRIS StratMap Shapefile
The Texas Natural Resource Information System (TNRIS) makes available ArcView shapefiles of the contours derived from the original USGS QUADs. These shapefiles can be imported to MAP 3D, or AutoCAD® Civil 3D®, and used to build a terrain model.

Regardless of the type of shapefile you have (contours, roads, etc.), the process is essentially the same.

  • MAP100 Connecting to WMS and WFS Data
You can incorporate web-based raster image data (such as satellite photographs) that have been published to a public web server using the WMS (Web Map Service) open standard developed by the Open GIS Consortium (OGC). AutoCAD Map 3D and Civil 3D 2010 support WMS versions 1.1.0, 1.1.1, and 1.3.
